How many times have you tried something new and it went terribly wrong? Guess what?! You don’t have to be embarrassed it happens to everyone! If everyone gave up after the first try when something was hard, frustrating or scary we would never learn to talk or walk. New things would never be made and growth would not happen.
In 2019 we booked a house in Atlantic City for a weekend retreat with high hopes it would sell out and we would have a successful Reset. This is not what happened at all. About two weeks prior to the date of the retreat we had no one signed up and a second payment on the Retreat location coming up. We decided to cancel the retreat because of a lack of interest. It HURT both financially and our pride. The first thoughts that came to my head were that this was not something that people cared about and we should give up. After a few days of sulking, we began thinking about how to make these Resets happen. We reached out to our community to find out what they wanted in a reset and what was realistic. We picked ourselves up and hosted two One-Day Resets by the end of the year!
Would it have been easier to shut down and never talk about Resets again? Maybe in the moment, but it would always be something we would look back on with what if. I don’t want to look back at life wondering what if I tried and what if I went for it. I would rather fall, reflect and get back on the horse.
This year try looking at things in a different light. If you try something new and it doesn’t work out the way you expected or thought instead of giving up and never going back to that thing or place again reflect on what you have learned. Be open with sharing it’s not failing if you have grown from it!
