How often do you go through life doing things just because or honestly not even thinking of why you’re doing them. Maybe you were raised a certain way, it’s something you have learned or “it’s just what you do.” I challenge you to dig deeper than that, think about what makes you tick and what gives you a hell yes in decision making instead of yes.
It can be so easy to get caught up in life just going through the motions. How is it 2020 already?! Do you want to look back and be proud of the things you did to get to where you are? Do these things line up with your values? If you’re not sure, if you haven’t taken the time to really think about these questions recently, let’s figure out your why…. what makes you tick?
Think about something in your life that you make conscious decisions to take part in. It could be your health or your job or a house you just bought, the school you enrolled your child in. Let’s go with health…
Question: Do you eat healthy??
Answer: Well, yes, I eat relatively healthy…
Question: Why is that….
Answer: I never really thought about it… I guess because I want to be healthy as I get older… I want to be able to hike and bike and play with my grandkids someday.
Question: Why is that important to you?
Answer: You know… I never really thought of that… I guess I need to do more digging.
Question: Do you make time to work out?
Answer: Sometimes, but I want to make that more of a priority….
Question: Why are you working out right now??
Answer: Now thinking about it, it seems as if it’s because it’s what I’m “supposed” to do….
Question: Are you happy with that why?
Answer: Well, no…. then let’s dig deeper…. Why do you want to make training more of a priority?? And so on and so forth….
Keep digging into why until you get to the root of you. Sometimes it can be hard to think why am I doing this?? Especially if the initial reasons for your why don’t line up with your values. However, it’s important, to be honest with yourself and live an authentic life. Dig into your why!
